Classical Drawing Lessons

Start: 03:00

End: 02 Jul

Classical Drawing Courses – with acclaimed painter Aengus Dewar.

Italy is the home of the Renaissance and the evolution of the mannerist style. To create visual works of art in any style, a firm foundation in drawing, with the ability to represent form, proportion, tone and shading, is indispensible for further, more complicated projects down the line.

The Summer courses will be taught by San Rocco’s resident painter, Aengus Dewar.

Aengus studied for several years in Florence at the Charles Cecil School of Art, since which he has become an international portrait artist with a particular talent for large, multi-figure compositions in the classical style – a rare skill, in this day and age, requiring many years of practice and honing.

Over the course, Aengus will introduce students to the essentials of figurative life-drawing, delivered in two-hour sessions twice daily in San Rocco’s impressive Grand Salone. Starting with the basic principles of drawing in pencil and charcoal, he will demonstrate that the figurative method is a system – a system of seeing which anyone can be trained to do, before transferring the object under scrutiny onto paper. Every day, students will be surprised to observe startling improvements in their work, until by week’s end their confidence to take all they have learned and practice independently will be raised to a new level.

The course is aimed at all levels of ability. Whether a complete beginner or an artist of exhibition standard, under Aengus' attentive and expert guidance you will witness great strides in your work.
